Montreal Hotel Update for Intact Travellers

The Delta is closing. Here is what to know about the two nearest alternatives.

What is a TMC hero image

If the Delta Hotels Montreal has been your go-to when travelling to the Intact offices, this is worth knowing before your next trip.

The Delta Montreal, a 456-room tower on President-Kennedy Avenue that has been a fixture of the downtown business travel market for decades, is closing permanently this September. The building has been approved for demolition and will be replaced by a new development. It will not reopen under another brand.

The good news is that two strong alternatives are within a five-minute walk of the Intact office at 2020 Robert-Bourassa Boulevard. They are different experiences, and the choice between them comes down to what matters most to the traveller.

Both properties are approximately a five-minute walk from the Intact office. Both are downtown, walkable to Sainte-Catherine Street, the Bell Centre, and the Underground City. The difference is in the experience.

The Metcalfe Hotel Montreal by Gray Collection

The Metcalfe is the newer of the two options and arguably the more distinctive one. It opened in 2025 as part of the Gray Collection, a Montreal-based family-owned hospitality group whose portfolio consistently ranks among the top five hotels in Eastern Canada in the Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards. The collection includes Auberge du Vieux-Port, William Gray, Le Petit Hotel, and the Metcalfe Ottawa, all recognized properties in the same family.

The Montreal property was fully renovated and designed around what Gray Collection describes as quiet luxury: clean lines, warm tones, natural materials, and a calm atmosphere that works as well for a solo business trip as it does for a small group gathering. The building itself carries the heritage of a landmark Montreal address; the interior reflects a contemporary sensibility with strong local identity.

The Rooms

119 rooms with premium bedding, bathrobes, in-room safes, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi (50+ Mbps), and an earthy, neutral palette designed for rest rather than stimulation. Guests who travel frequently for business consistently highlight the quality of the rooms as a standout.

The Restaurant: Benjamin

Benjamin is not a hotel restaurant in the ordinary sense. It opened before the hotel and was already drawing locals before the rooms above it filled. A modern Parisian steakhouse (dry-aged AAA cuts, French-inspired design, a full cocktail program), it operates from morning through evening and is well-suited for a business breakfast, a working lunch, or a dinner with colleagues or clients. Gray Collection's philosophy is that the restaurant defines the hotel, and at the Metcalfe that shows. The private dining rooms on the second level of Benjamin are available for executive meetings or group dinners.

Who This Works Best For

Travellers who want a distinctive, locally rooted experience. Those who value design and a strong restaurant over a large corporate footprint. Groups of up to 75 where the meeting environment and food and beverage offering are part of the event, not just logistics. And anyone who would rather stay at one of Montreal's most-discussed new addresses than a flag that looks the same as the one in their last city.

One practical note: the Metcalfe is not part of a loyalty program. Stays here do not earn or redeem points.

Renaissance Montreal Downtown Hotel by Marriott

The Renaissance Montreal Downtown is a full-service Marriott Bonvoy property on Robert-Bourassa Boulevard, steps from Sainte-Catherine Street and within easy reach of Place Ville-Marie and the Underground City. It has been part of the downtown Montreal business travel landscape for some time and offers the consistency, scale, and program benefits that come with a major international chain.

The hotel positions itself as a boutique lifestyle property within the Marriott portfolio, meaning it carries some design personality beyond the standard corporate footprint. The lobby draws on local street art as a design reference, and the rooms feature original artwork and a contemporary aesthetic with colourful accents.

The Rooms

142 spacious, well-equipped rooms with flat-screen TVs, Caffitaly espresso machines, minifridges, in-room safes, bathrobes, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Reviews consistently highlight room size and comfort. Suites with separate living areas are available and offer good value for longer stays or small groups who want to share space. The hotel has no pool currently; the pool has been permanently closed.

The Restaurants: Le East and R Rooftop Terrasse

Le East is the ground-floor restaurant serving modern Pan-Asian cuisine (dumplings, noodles, fresh seafood) for breakfast through dinner, with brunch available on weekends. It is a full-service restaurant with a complete bar menu. For Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members and above, a breakfast amenity is available here in lieu of a lounge.

Terrasse R is the seasonal rooftop bar and bistro kitchen with panoramic views over downtown Montreal. It opens in warmer months and is a genuine draw for post-meeting drinks or casual dinners when the season allows. It is one of the more compelling features of the property for business travellers who want to decompress after a day at the Intact offices.

Choosing Between the Two

Both hotels are a five-minute walk from the Intact office, both are in the heart of downtown, and both offer strong amenities for business travel. The choice comes down to a few honest trade-offs.

Choose the Metcalfe if:

The restaurant experience and hotel character matter as much as the room
You are travelling with colleagues and want a gathering space that feels local and curated rather than corporate
You are not on a Marriott Bonvoy-driven itinerary
You want a hotel that Montrealers themselves go to, not just a property that serves business travellers passing through

Choose the Renaissance if:

You are a Marriott Bonvoy member and want to earn points or use elite benefits
Your company has a Marriott preferred rate agreement
You want the rooftop bar option in warmer months
You value the Navigator concierge service for a busy trip with a lot of logistics
You want the scale and infrastructure of a full Marriott property for a larger group or conference

The Delta served Intact travellers well for a long time. These two properties, each strong in their own right, are the nearest and most practical replacements. Both are worth knowing before the next Montreal trip goes into the calendar, and both can be booked through the Encore Platform.
